For many years, students who spend a year in the CT’s partner state of Baden-Württemberg for study abroad at a university and an internship at a German company have greatly benefited from Dr. Weissenbach’s guidance. A professor at the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University Mosbach, he will help everyone with their internship applications, hold a workshop, provide advice for daily tasks and challenges, and be your mentor on many things related to German cultures. He certainly has all the expertise needed:
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andreas Weissenbach, his official title, started his career in an engineering company in Germany where he was educated in mechanical engineering. He then joined the German Army where he served as an officer, and over time was highly decorated prior to being honorably discharged. He continued with his studies in mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Munich and at the Technical University of Ilmenau where he received the equivalent of a master’s degree and an award of excellence.
He certainly got around as a professional engineer: for five years he worked as a technical service manager in a mechanical engineering company in Stuttgart and for four years he was employed as a Senior Consultant-Manager for an engineering and consulting company in Hamburg. From Hamburg, he served clients all over the world, especially in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and North America. In 2004, he enrolled in a research program at the Technical University of Ilmenau, eventually receiving his doctorate in Maintenance Management along with another award of excellence.
Today, Professor Weissenbach is the Head of the mechanical engineering department, and a Senator and Vice Chairman of the local university council at the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University Mosbach. He is also the CEO of the private research firm Deyses-Institute, which works on production management and maintenance management, as well as the CEO of the Computer Integrated Manufacturing (Industry 4.0) Society at the Technical University of Ilmenau. He also serves on the board of directors for the International Maintenance Association (IMA) in Lugano/Switzerland.
In his spare time – despite an impressive roster of professional activities – Andreas Weissenbach enjoys hiking or riding his mountain bike. Oh yes, and he is also a certified ski instructor, licensed helicopter pilot and participates in air mountain rescue teams in Bavaria!
Once you meet Andreas Weissenbach, you will get to know him as super approachable and kind, always ready to hear about your studies and interests. For those going to Baden-Württemberg for their year abroad, you are in good hands!
