Germany’s Consul General, Dr. Sonja Kreibich, visits UConn

On Tuesday, September 12th, Dr. Sonja Kreibich, the newly appointed Consul General of Germany, visited UConn for the first time. The Boston Consulate’s LinkedIn page reports:

UConn is educating the next generation of global citizens through its impressive array of opportunities and exchanges with Germany. Through UConn’s Baden-Württemberg – Connecticut Partnership, EuroTech and EuroBiz, students develop German language skills as well as professional experience abroad. In addition to this, faculty from universities in CT and BaWü collaborate in an interdisciplinary Human Rights Research Consortium.

She also spoke with current UConn students about Germany’s response to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, the Energiewende and much more!

Dr. Kreibich met with President Radenka Maric and Provost Anne D’Alleva, with the Experiential Global Learning leadership, including Dr. Dan Weiner and Dr. Yuhang Rong, with representatives from the School of Engineering and the School of Business, the directors of the Connecticut/Baden-Württemberg Human Rights Research Consortium, and with all faculty of the German Studies Program. In the General Education course “Contemporary Germany in Europe,” taught by Dr. Stefan Bronner, she presented information about current political and social issues in Germany. Students readily took her up on the invitation to ask questions, and Dr. Kreibich addressed topics about Germany during the pandemic, immigrating to Germany, and questions about the right-wing party AfD.

Dr. Kreibich will visit UConn again to attend the 30th anniversary celebration of the EUROTECH program on October 23rd!
