Prof. Sebastian Wogenstein publishes new book on Songs from the Vilna Ghetto

Prof. Wogenstein published a new book on songs from the Vilna ghetto in a bi-lingual edition (German and Yiddish) and presented the book together at an event that included the performance of songs (please see below). The book is described as follows on the publisher’s page:

“In this new edition of Shmerke Kaczerginski’s collection of songs from the Vilna ghetto, Dieter Koller and Sebastian Wogenstein make Kaczerginski’s music accessible in three parallel formats by providing the original songs in Yiddish script, transliterations of each song, and singable German translations, along with a musical score. Each song is accompanied by commentary, images, and QR codes to access recordings. Short biographical notes on composers and authors, as well as descriptions of the historical events and locations mentioned in Kaczerginski’s songs, offer readers a poignant impression of the various ways in which Jews in Vilna resisted the German occupiers who sought to destroy not only the city’s Jewish population, but also its rich and deep-rooted Jewish culture.”

You can also listen to both editors and the musical performance in this youtube video:

Congratulations, Prof. Wogenstein!
