Prof. Anke Finger part of Team awarded Mellon Grant to support Center for Humanities Communication

“How can scholars, creatives, and others working in the humanities better communicate their work to the public? How can humanities communicators–like their science communicator colleagues–benefit from professional training for needed roles in education, the media, cultural and entertainment industries, non-profits, and elsewhere? And what new materials and tools can they invent for telling the humanities’ story across platforms?”

Anke Finger, as part of an inter-university team of four, Kath Burton (Taylor&Francis, UK), Christine Henseler (Union College), and Alan Liu (UC Santa Barbara), received a $150,000 Mellon grant over 18 months to build the very first Center for Humanities Communication.

Following a national convening at the Academy of Arts and Sciences in September 2024, they were able to secure funding for the nascent field of Humanities Communication (HumComm) to be positioned along-side and in collaboration with the well-established area of Science Communication (SciComm).
